Maintaining the Vetiver Grass in an old paddy

After a wet couple of years, this Vetiver was unmaintained due to being submerged at mid-calf height water most of the time. Slowly working through the now spaced-out lines (from 2 rows to 1) shows a significant amount of biomass creation.

Letting it go like this is a lot of physical effort to bring back. In a production system, if you had the rows setup for a slasher or similar, one could reduce the labour. One could also burn the area but I’m interested in building organic matter over the existing poor soil of the area.

The below photo shows the regrowth from the earlier cut Vetiver after the other side was reached.

In between the 2 paddies was a pasture grass walking track. 2 hedges on either side can completely suppress with the biomass created over time, remembering that the grass has not been cut at ideal times either.
